Moving can feel overwhelming, but with the right plan you can stay organized and stress-free. This comprehensive checklist covers everything you need to do in the weeks leading up to your move.
6 Weeks Before
Start by researching and booking your moving company early, especially if you are moving during peak season (May through September). Get quotes from at least three companies and verify their insurance and licensing.
4 Weeks Before
Begin decluttering room by room. Donate, sell, or dispose of items you no longer need. Start collecting packing supplies: boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and markers. Notify important contacts of your address change including banks, insurance, and subscriptions.
2 Weeks Before
Start packing non-essential items. Label every box with the room destination and a brief description of contents. Arrange for utility transfers at your new home. Confirm your move date and details with your moving company.
1 Week Before
Pack a moving day essentials box with toiletries, medications, chargers, snacks, and a change of clothes. Do a final walkthrough to make sure nothing is missed. Confirm elevator bookings if moving from or to a condo.
